Lathe For sale
I am going to sell my trusty Colchester Bantam 2000 lathe. The machine was bought second hand from a local company and has given me many years of trouble free service. I would be the first to admit that it needs a bit of TLC and probably a coat of paint would not go amiss. The machine and other items on this page are being auctioned on eBay.
In my use the machine has been used on the production of the best part of two 4" traction engines and a large 7.25 gauge locomotive. The machine is three phase, the converter is also on eBay if you need it There are 13 Dixon tool holders as shown in the pictures sold with the lathe. It is also fitted with a top of the range Newall DRO and spherosyn encoders.
I am advertising the lathe on a number of web sites and linking to this page so people can see what is on offer and gauge the condition. The machine is sold as seen and as described in the text and pictures. If at any point some tooling has crept into the snaps that is not included in the sale only the dixon holders etc.
Steve Cox of Landy lift is going to skid the replacement machine in and has offered a good price for a back load to any prospective purchasers. Otherwise I can deliver at cost on my trailer although you would have to have your own means of unloading.
The machine is located in North Northumberland and is still connected up so can be seen working until the end of the eBay auction.. Serial number of the machine is 3/0021/02072DD
There is a chuck guard I don't normally use it but it looks like it might be a good idea given its original condition!
Note adjustable bed stop handy if your batch machining when the saddle runs up to it in power feed it kicks out the feed.
The only damage to the machine is to the fiberglass gear cover, which i dropped a casting on. I have never got round to fiber glassing it up and repairing it.

Newal Topaz DRO note no sig because the encoders are disconnected as you can see. Shown below is one of the spherosyn encoders all part of the lathe package on eBay
Note the DRO head is mounted off the wall on a long arm. I want to keep this arm as i prefer that to mounting on the machine.. You will need to purchase a mounting kit form Newall or the replacement machine has a machine mount kit which may be available dependant on when the Bantam is picked up.
